Have you ever been cheated after giving a ride?
This is a question we’ve been hearing about more and more lately, and it seems to be a growing concern among drivers. Uber drivers have told us that after they’ve given a ride (especially to a drunk passenger) they will check their accounts the next morning to see the fee they earned from their ride totally eliminated. Yes, you read that right: drivers like you get zero in fees despite giving the ride, spending gas money, putting up with the drunk customer, and missing out on making money by taking other (sober) customers during the time of the ride.
This sticker shock--the technical name is “Pax Fraud”--happens when a (typically drunk) rider sends in a request to Uber after their ride claiming they weren’t in the car. Uber’s default is to believe the passenger (without proof), leaving drivers in the red.
One driver recently told us,“this is ridiculous. I’ve given numerous rides to less than sober riders who then claim they never received those rides. My ridehistory gets edited, the money iswithdrawn from my account, and I’m left with a sour taste in my mouth.”
This driver’s friends’ have experienced the same thing, which makes us wonder how much of an issue this is nationwide. Here at TripCam we hate hearing when this happens. We pride ourselves on being your allies to help reduce and eliminate this problem among others that you might face when driving. When you use the free TripCam app, you are secure in knowing that not only will your (potentially drunk) passenger be recorded as getting their ride, but you candispute with Uber if your rider tries to cheat you out of your hard earned money.
Let us know if this “Pax Fraud” has ever happened to you and be sure to use TripCam to ensure it won’t again.
